The Pineapple Eyes Podcast

Robert Raths: Discovering wonder in improvisation

Episode Summary

As a child, Erased Tapes’ founder Robert Raths used to ask his father’s clients to scribble on receipts and coasters. In Episode 8 of The Pineapple Eyes Podcast, Robert explains how he’s carried this boyhood fascination with improvisation into his approach to music.

Episode Notes

German-born Robert Raths is the founder of Erased Tapes Records, an East London-based record label and artist collective established in 2007. A musician himself, though his background is in architecture and art, he’s grown the label from a Myspace page into a true disruptor of the industry with its uniquely avant-garde approach.

All the music in this episode is courtesy of Erased Tapes. Angelus Novus (Alex Somers Rework) - Hatis Noit, Yodaka - Masayoshi Fujita and Blue Rock Thrush - Masayoshi Fujita.

- Where might you find wonder in nature?

- Is there a human that's currently bringing you wonder or inspiring you?
